1. What is the tax liability of a sole proprietor?
As a self-employed person, you must report the income earned from your business operations as business income, not salary. The business income is part of the total personal income which is taxed at individual income tax rates.

2. How long does it take to open a bank account?
The approval is given solely by the bank. It may take 1 day or few weeks.

3. Do I need to register sole proprietorship with ACRA?
A sole proprietorship can be exempted from business registration. As long as you, being the owner, choose to conduct business using your full name as reflected in your Singapore NRIC, there is no need to register the business to ACRA.

4. I do not want to reveal my residential address to the public. What should I do?
If you prefer not to reveal your residential address in the public records, you can register an alternate address at the point of incorporation or at any other time. The alternate address must be an address where you can be contacted and must be within the same jurisdiction as the residential address. It cannot be a P.O. Box address. Once you have registered an Alternate Address, it will be displayed in ACRA’s public records instead of your residential address. However, all official correspondences from ACRA will continue to be sent to the residential address.

5. Why do the Medisave contributions of the business owner need to be up to date?
If you intend to continue running the business, you need to renew the business before the expiry date. The registered owner must ensure that the Medisave contributions are up to date, otherwise, the business entity cannot be renewed or may be canceled.
